For teachers of all stages who are at Proficient Teacher Accreditation Level who would like to better understand and engage with Muslim students and their families. This course will contribute 2 hours of QTC registered professional development addressing standards 1.3.2, 4.1.2 and 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
What is the course about?
This course provides an overview of the history of Muslim presence in Australia, clarification of Islamic concepts, diversity between and within Muslim communities, and the challenges that affect Muslim students at school. Teachers are exposed to collaborative activities that enable them to implement more inclusive classroom strategies and foster a better relationship with their Muslim students.
This course will be run by experienced educationists and presenters of topics related to Islam and Muslims who have done extensive community development work with the Australian Muslim Women’s Association. The course will involve both brief presentations as well as several collaborative activities in groups, collegial discussions with opportunities to provide and receive constructive feedback, focused conversions, case studies, peer coaching and reflection.
This course is run as both a webinar, in-school training, and training in our premises in Parramatta.
